The Discernment Ritual Kit was created to support the third kit in The Book of the Ancients.

Discernment - Discernment is the ability to obtain sharp perceptions or to judge well (or the activity of so doing). In the case of judgment, discernment can be psychological, moral or aesthetic in nature. Discernment has been described in the setting of Christianity under different meanings including discernment in the context of God's will. Discernment has also been defined in the contexts; scientific (that is discerning what is true about the real world), normative (discerning value including what ought to be) and formal (deductive reasoning). The process of discernment within judgment, involves going past the mere perception of something and making nuanced judgments about its properties or qualities. Discernment in the Christian religion is considered as a virtue, a discerning individual is considered to possess wisdom, and be of good judgment; especially so with regard to subject matter often overlooked by others.

Discernment is an important skill to hone for both magick and mundane life. When you establish yourself and your space through the prior rituals, changes in your thought patterns may start to occur. Uncertainty, unsteadiness, and anxiety are normal reactions when beginning an inward journey to understand your true self. Learning to break down each thought, sense, and perception will aid in reducing insecurities.

Contents of Kit:

  • Feather (1 Qty.)
  • Stillness Incense (.4 oz)*
  • Ivory Candle (6 Inch)
  • Merlinite (1 Qty.)

How to Use:

The discernment ritual  items were chosen to represent the nature of air. Air allows us to focus and gives us the mental aquity to question the mysteries of the ourselves and the univers.

The feather is to help represent the nature of air needed for this ritual. You are not looking for the sharp, cutting nature of air to execute this ritual. Instead, consider the way you one rythimically breathes during meditation. It is that soft, yet focused consentration that should be pulled from the feather when performing the discernment ritual.

The stillness incense is a blend custom made to harness the state of mind used in meditation. It promotes clarity and distinction once melted down. Use a few pebels of resin in a resin burner to experience the effects first hand. In this kit, we have included enough incense to complete the ritual and confirmations as indicated by The Book of the Ancients.

The ivory candle, while unscented, is there to help represent the purity of thought. You do not want a candle with color or scents to impose any altered perceptions during your ritual. Think of it as a blank canvas or chalk board to help keep your mind clear as you focus on the ritual itself. The candle was will allow you to perform sever rituals before needing to purchase additional tools.

Merlinte is a stone associated with air, communication, and magickal power. It is intended to help aid in the discernment process by both cutting away doubt and increasing the user's focus. Allow the stone's energy to help clear mind and mind's eye before, during and after the ritual. You can also use this stone outside of the ritual to aid in study, homework, or creative blockages.
